Mary Saul’s porch started this whole thing. Welcome to the second installment of Porch Prowling showcasing the great porches inside Hot Springs Village. This series is video only (for obvious reasons).
Rhonda and I were out walking a few months ago and I spotted Mary’s house with a wrap-around porch. So I grabbed a business card out of my pocket and rang the doorbell. No answer. I slide the card into a crease in the door. Weeks passed. A month or two. Then I posted an appeal in our Facebook group for folks who might be willing to share their porch with us. People started responding. But not Mary.
To be fair, I didn’t yet know Mary. And she’s not big on social media so she had no idea who I was or what I was up to. So I went back by her house, with business card in hand, and rang the doorbell again.
Mary came to the door and quickly responded to my question, “Would you mind if I recorded a show with you to show off your porch?” — with a big smile, saying, “Sure!”
